I recently came across the multi-hyphenate, Hasan Raheem – the artist through a small concert that recently went viral over the internet for being organised during Covid times. Well, clearly it wasn’t the best time to gather a crowd, however (secretly we’re glad it did) because now I’m hooked to each and every song of Hasan Raheem.

Was this the first time I heard Hasan Raheem drown me in an abyss his effortlessly strained, but vibing voice? No, I realised I was already a fan of a snippet of “Aisay Kaisay” that I had heard on Instagram, and look at me now – I’m sharing my top 5 picks of Hasan Raheem and why you should be going gaga over this talented boy from Gilgit-Baltistan, who by the way is a stylish doctor in the making!

His take on soul, rnb and indie music in a pool that’s brimming with pop and pop rock music Pakistani artists, Hasan Raheem is like a breath of fresh air (and kinda somewhere in the zone of the likes of Shamoon Ismail, no?)

Aisay Kaisay is the very first song that introduced me to Hasan Raheem and of the major reasons why it’s still on repeat. From the subtle shifts to the sounds and the way he plays around in that pink hoodie kinda ropes you in.

JOONA

Joona is fun and catchy (one that’d also hear on my one of my grocery runs these days). And to me it reminds you of the simply joys of life.

SAADA

Saada accentuates Hasan Raheem’s cool and low-key tone in his voice that carries heart, thus bringing Saada in the center.

AARZU

Through Aarzu, the words of confession to a lover become visually ingrained on your mind so you just go along with it. I particularly love the tempo of this number!

PAISA – TALAL x HASSAN

The national anthem for paisa is “Paisa” – that’s it. You immediately pick up on the song as you drive around the streets of Lahore.
